The first day of the 4th Annual Gathering will be a pre-plenary day to remember.
Thursday, April 22, 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. (This briefing is open to all)
On April 22, 2010 estimated start time 8:30 a.m., the Coalition of Schools Educating Boys of Color in collaboration with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and Howard University will host an opportunity to convene with legislators and legislative assistants. The focus of the convening will be the preK-12 status of boys and young men of color in America's education system. This is a "must do" experience for all who are advocates and frontline champions in the mission to ensure promising futures for our boys and young men.
This event will be open to gathering registrants and to the interested public. Join us and witness the policy and legislative process in action.
The event will be in 2247 Rayburn House Building.
Transportation is not provided.
Thursday, April 22, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
The life of founders and leaders of schools is typically busy and often bordering on frenetic. There is too little time for reflection, thoughtful analysis, or sharing with colleagues. COSEBOC knows that leadership matters. And in regards to the education and development of boys and young men of color, it matters greatly.
Join us at the Westin Hotel (the conference host hotel) for an engaging, provocative, authentic, and reflective facilitated conversation amongst leaders. Come and meet nationally recognized leaders from the Eagle Academy for Young Men, Urban Assembly Academy of History and Citizenship, Boys Latin Academy of Philadelphia, Septima Clark Public Charter School, and many others. Enjoy a rare opportunity to share successes or struggles in a respectful and supportive space. For those who are interested in knowing how to start a school or for those who desire to learn new strategies, this is the place. Start time is 1:00 p.m.
Thursday, April 22, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. (By Invitation only - see below)
The first 80 PAID registrants will be sent a formal invitation to a special "sit down" dinner and reception hosted by The Motion Picture Association of America and sponsored by Newscorp. Come and enjoy the ambience, networking, and special events planned. Please register before all seats are filled, and indicate if you are interested.
The young men of the Septima Clark Public Charter School located in Washington, D.C. will welcome us. Our guest speaker for the evening is Wes Moore. And you will view the screening of An American Promise, a new documentary about the experience of two families' journey to find educational success for their sons.
The reception and dinner begin at 6:00 p.m. The Motion Picture Association of America is a short walk from our host, Westin Hotel.
